CABBAGETOWN TRAFFIC SURVEY RESULTS
and
CARROLL STREET SURVEY
There were a total of 104 responses, which represent about 25% of the neighborhood. In general, it looks like there is support for the proposed addition of stop signs to certain corners, but other than that, it looks like there is a lot of variation in responses to the other questions.
More than half of the respondents agreed with the idea of turning certain streets from two-way to one-way, but by a very small margin. The same pattern was seen for the questions about implementing alternate side of the street parking on Berean, Tye, and Estoria Streets. Speed bumps and bulb outs on curbs were not supported, and support for rumple strips was not strong.
About 2/3 of respondents supported marking the beginning and end of curb parking, leaving room at the corners. This is an important issue since we have had complaints from emrgency services that the parking at the corner prevents the emergency vehicle from access to some of the streets.
About 40% of respondents were in favor of a 20 mph speed limit throughout the neighborhood.
People who don’t want bulb outs REALLY don’t want bulb outs.
The residents of Pearl Street are very concerned about the cut-through traffic on their street and the issue of excessive speed on Pearl St. They are very clear about their desire to get these concerns addressed, especially using the traffic calming measures presented in the survey. The residents of Pearl Street were opposed to making parking on one side of Pearl. The residents of Pearl Street also wrote in the addition of a stop sign at Pearl and Fulton Terrace.
When we looked at the responses by residents on a particular street that would be affected by a change, we saw that residents on Powell and Kirkwood Streets are opposed to making Powell one –way at the north end of the street, while people on Estoria and Tye are in favor of making their streets one-way. The people who are opposed to turning Powell Street one way from Wylie to Kirkwood are very opposed to it.
People living on Estoria, Tye, and Berean also supported alternate side of the street parking for those streets.
It should be noted that the number of respondents on most of these streets was very low, so these results are unreliable.
We are also unveiling additional parking for Carroll St.. There is also a simple survey to fill out and a map showing the layout.
