Dear Friends, Runners, Neighbors, Beer Drinkers—

Join us Thursday December 1st for the inaugural night of the Milltown Runners.  We’ll be meeting in front of Milltown Arms Tavern on Carroll St. in Cabbagetown at 7 pm for a spirited group run followed by some well earned, tasty food and beverage.  This will be a weekly event so be sure you can boast you were at the very first one.

We’ll map out a few different courses so runners of all ages and abilities will be able to run a distance that suits them alongside others at their level. The benefits of running with others are immeasurable and this will be a chance to get to know more of the people in and around your neighborhood who are out there putting one foot in front of the other just like you.  While we all may be running from different things, we’ll all be running to the same thing, and that thing is cold beer.  Our host, Milltown Arms Tavern will not only be looking after your keys and/or bag while you run, they’ll have water ready for you when you finish and then they will be offering Miller Lite Pitchers at $5.50! They have a great menu as well--burgers, sandwiches, pasta, chili, wings—I had the Turkey sandwich with a side of Tater Tots last time I was in, which was delicious…

Of course non-runners are welcome as well.  You can say something like “I hit the gym before work today” or “I pulled a hammy playing dodgeball”.  Kent Schneider has proposed a 50 yard dash group which he will be leading from Agave up to Milltown for all you sprinters out there. We’re very thankful to the people at Milltown Arms for welcoming and hosting us so forward this email, tell a co-worker, bring a friend—a full bar is a fun bar.

A couple of things for runners to remember:  It’ll be dark out so wearing a reflective vest may be smart…Be extra mindful of traffic when running in a group—if you are a little bit ahead don’t sprint to catch a light—the people behind you may not realize it is changing….talk to each other—you can talk about anything but be sure to look out for each other (traffic, potholes, slippery spots etc).  One of the main reasons to run in groups is comraderie but the other is safety…Make it a ritual—we all have days where lacing the shoes up seems like more work than it’s worth but knowing you’ll feel better and enjoy yourself each Thursday night will make it a little easier.

Any questions etc. feel free to email me at tim@rugsbyrobinson.com or call Milltown Arms Tavern (180 Carroll St Cabbagetown, USA) at (404)827-0434.  I’ll send out a reminder next week but until then Happy Thanksgiving—eat lots, we’ll run it off…
