CLICK TO APPLY for SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

The Cabbagetown Initiative 501c3 sponsors awesome fun stuff like Chomp & Stomp Festival, Cabbagetown Community Garden, and Forward Warrior Mural Project. We have seasonal opportunities, and one-shot quick paying gigs for qualified worker bees, plus plentiful volunteer opportunities. JOIN US!

*NEW* We are pleased to launch a paid internship program, with all the chill y’all know, love, & expect from Atlanta’s quirkiest little city milltown. It’s flexible, fun, and low-key. Hit us up to learn more, or drop right into the easygoing application form.

Scroll down for à la carte opportunities, or cruise over the general volunteer sign-up page. Perhaps you’re considering one of these noble quests:

  1. Non-Profit Administrative Assistant
Help the organization manage operations & grow. General computer stuff, basic website maintenance, social media, promotional literature, and donor outreach.

  2. Mural Repair & Site Care

Got a knack for color matching and restoration? We get our fair share of damage from wayward tourists with spraycan, and on rare occasions more malevolent vandals. It’s a big mural wall and there’s always something to fix.

  3. Event Planning & Logistics

Help us prepare for the September event in one of several categories: Hospitality, Artist Relations, Sponsorship, Graphic Design, Kids Zone, Site Preparation, and more! It’s a crash course in Festival Management, and we’re always happy to have more helping hands.

QUICK JOBS - VOLUNTEER GIGS - FORWARD WARRIOR

During the height of the pandemic, we began offering small gigs in exchange for a quick buck. If you’ve got a little time and some expertise, we’re happy to exchange some dollars for valuable services you might offer.

* * *

We love our volunteers, but we also like to pay people. We’d love to work with friends and family of our artists, or members of the communities where our artists live, work, and play. Cabbagetown adults are encouraged to volunteer in their community, but there are also small jobs for Cabbagetown students. Let us know if you’d like to donate your time, or if you need a little work.

WE ARE STILL PAYING FOR LITTLE ART GIGS! We’ve hired folks from Atlanta, as well as international students doing remote work on video. Let’s talk!

(p.s. Volunteering won’t steal a job. We’ve got plenty of stuff to do.)

CABBAGETOWN NEWSLETTER PRESS RELEASE:

Seeking some creative students for quick computer jobs. $100 each. This grant-funded initiative aims to provide skills training for young adults through community outreach, increasing the digital footprint of our mural project. Prefer to help high school / college students gain valuable experience, or assist emerging freelancers with simple cash for short, clearly defined tasks*.

There is some brute data processing with an eye for art; some creative problem solving & simple design. Other tasks include basic video editing, English-Spanish translation, creative writing, and more! Great for community friends & family!

Approximately a dozen spots are available. Folks who would like to support this meaningful program can fund mini-jobs directly by including “Art Gigs” in the memo line of your donation ($50 minimum, please), and we’ll hire even more people! www.cabbagetown.com/forwardwarrior#donate

* Most ‘Gig Work’ here is online. Requires computer & internet access. Payment by snail mail check only, via Cabbagetown Initiative 501c3. Under 18 requires parental consultation. Depending on fundraising goals, there is a maximum number of gigs per person.

CONTACT US

Gig based work means we’ll pay for a small task, and hope to do it again. Send us an email (include sample work, if you like) and we’ll chat. If we agree on simple terms, it’ll be snap! Atlanta area residents only, please.

Video

We’ve got video. We need more video. We’ve got stuff to edit, caption, and add text / graphics overlays.

If you can cut and fade, convert and compress, and manage simple YouTube channel duties, let’s talk!

Web

Our WordPress & SquareSpace platforms are clunky, but we’ve got additional webspace and room grow. Some original content areas need to remain accessible for non-professional web editors and neighborhood volunteers. Other areas can get fancy and nerdy.

What can you do? We’ve got easy (perhaps tedious) web work, we’ve got scripting needs, and everything in between.

If you can update hyperlinks, manage simple media libraries, integrate basic interfaces with more advanced functions, including facilitating donation platforms (PayPal, DonorBox, GoFundMe), volunteer sign-ups (SignUp Genius), basic database management (Excel), tracking & analytics (JetPack, Google Analytics), or just some of that, let’s talk!

004 archivist.jpg

Archive

We’ve got a ton of photos from different people in different formats and different resolutions. We’ve got print quality, social media sizes, and fuzzy old stuff worth saving.

If you’re comfy with batch processing, macros & action scripts, bulk renaming, quick cropping, sorting, meta information, cloud warehousing, and general file management (or just some of that), let’s talk!

005 page design.jpg

Design

We’ve got content. We’ve got pages. We want it to look prettier. We want it to work better.

If you’re good at responsive web design, especially building it for neighborhood volunteers to edit later, let’s talk!

006 outreach.jpg

Outreach

We’ve got a large, free, outdoor mural to look at. Not everybody can get here to check it out. Not everybody knows about it, or why it’s special. Outreach means community relations and under-served populations, but also media relations and audience engagement.

We need people to make videos for kids, stories for seniors, translations & overdubs for multinational communities, and more!

If you’ve got a good eye and an unique style, love to talk or listen or converse, and know your way around video applications and social media, let’s talk!

Access

We want to share our project with everybody. That means different languages, but also people experiencing difficulty with mobility, sight, or hearing. We would like to build relationships with schools and libraries and senior centers. We love new ideas!

This is great for creative writers, poets & spoken word artists! Also, musicians might be able to provide complementary material.

If you’ve got an open-mind and creative spirit, or history with translation, storytelling, enhanced interactive content, augmented reality, or other neat innovations that help people have rich and interesting experiences, let’s talk!

007 accessibility2 - translate.jpg

If you speak another language fluently, we’d love to include your translation in our YouTube interviews! It helps expand our audience, building accessibility and outreach, and it promotes our wonderful artists to new people.

Here’s how it works:
1. Tell us what language(s) you’re comfortable translating and we’ll send you a TXT file with the English subtitles, and/or an auto-generated TXT file in the language you prefer. That’s it!

-or- if you’d like to pick your own video to translate:

1.Check out our YouTube channel for the Artist Interviews (currently translating 2018, then we’ll unlock 2019).
2. Select some artists you like, and check the subtitles (or video description) to see if its available.
3. We’ll send you the auto-generated TXT as above.

Feeling fancy? We also love overdubs. If you can do plausible voice acting that keeps the focus on the artist and their words, take a shot at recording a voiceover! Read at a comfortable pace. Pause generously between paragraphs. Send us a voicememo recording (most phones have a simple app for that).

006 outreach2 - captions.jpg

Closed captioning is an important part of any video, and the auto-generated AI text just isn’t there yet.

All we need is a basic gist on the conversation (minus “um”, “you know”, & “like”). Not only does this help the hearing impaired, but it’s useful for people who want to watch when it isn’t convenient or possible to use speakers or earbuds. Also, English captions are our starting point for assisting with language translations!

Can you listen and type? You’re hired. Click the link for an example of a completed video caption file, and then visit this video link (turn on subtitles!) to see it in action.
