PLAYSCAPES
Cabbagetown Initiative centers comfort and hospitality, inviting curious visitors to enjoy our neighborhood by integrating thoughtful areas into our public spaces. We are excited to welcome a variety of uses, promoting age diversity, reflection, and natural experiences.
Ok.. but what about the playground??
Yeah, let’s do that too! It’s a great time to update the equipment.
Care to join us? :) friends@cabbagetown.com / 404-222-0644
Areas of Focus:
Accessible Play
LET’S ROLL! Wheels make the world go round, and we’re just wild about strollers, wheelchairs, and skates. How about this? Soft, permeable surfaces that get us to where we need to be: playgrounds, water fountains, and nature viewing areas. Sounds like a plan.
Exploration
Animals, plants, and secret spots! There’s plenty of room for wandering and discovery. Hillside wildflowers, sneaky coyotes, and songbirds galore are waiting for the patient and observant.
Playscapes looks for fun in step stones, clever logfalls, and hidden boulders. Stuff to see or smell, things to climb, and listening for mysteries to unfold. Find a new path!
Safe Places
Visibility, comfort, and cute spots for a little book nook or picnic. You shouldn’t have to look far for a restful seat away from the city hustle.
Community Building
Our neighborhood survey had clear results: Cabbagetown likes to socialize. We use our parks to meet with friends and talk with neighbors. Of course there’s sports, but people are looking for a pal. Sometimes the best we can do is create a place for people, an opportunity for playful conversation, and having fun just being together.
Large Fields
You can always find us outside on the lawn. One great big luscious field with room to breathe, an acre to spread out, and a world of possibilities - with starry skies at night!
Relaxation
Zzzzzzz zzzz zz zzzzzz zzzzzz znort snortz zzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzz zzz zzzz grumble grumble zzzzzzzzzz zzz zz z z z z z z z z z z z z…
Nap time? Please. Hibernation? Maybe not, but chillin’ is what we like to do. Mental well-being demands taking it slow sometimes. We think it’s just peachy if you feel comfortable enough to daydream.
Shade
IT’S HOT. Give Grandma and Uncle Joe some place to get out of this heat. Caregiving, parental responsibilities, and nanny life are exhausting! We are realizing a missing component from the 2002 Master Plan, shade structures. Look for sails and shelters, canopies and cozy corners. Everybody needs to take a break now & then; that sun ain’t playin’.
Amenities
We want you to be happy. Basic human needs shouldn’t be out of reach. Water fountains need to work, charging stations should have the juice, bike racks should be plentiful, and public restrooms shouldn’t sound scary or impossible. This project will take a village, and this is how we show care for others.
